Asimov’s 14th Rule

I don’t know if you’ve read Astro Boy, but Dr. Tenma is kind of a jerk, so don’t feel too bad for him.

I’ve never read Astro Boy, but this does remind me of episodes of Star Trek TNG when Data would try to be funny, but wind up being a complete dick and all ‘Huh? There’s water from your eyes again’

I watched the first episode of Astro Boy on Toonami last night (how awesome was that btw?!), and it was some pretty dark shit. Child death, robot child slavery, it’s nuts.

The thing that always bothers me the most is how Tenma puts all this work and effort into perfectly recreating his son and making a robot with feelings, and then IMMEDIATELY throws him out. I can’t remember if it’s the same in the cartoon, but in the manga, he literally chases him out and then sells him off for not being able to grow like a real child. I mean.. fuckin’ a.

because he was crazy about his son lost, but when the shock was gone is kinda creepy to have a kind that looks exactly like your son,

its shame that he wasnt expanded in the 80´s series but the 2000´s he was super crazy

after reading this I went and watched the ep of the original anime on youtube, while browsing an article about a pedophile ex-priest who blames the Catholic church for his actions because they knew about it and protected him.

The relationship between Astro Boy, Temma and the creepy guy from the circus took on a dark tone after that.

I never thought of it this way, but the movie “A.I.” has quite a bit in common with Astro Boy.

You know, minus giant robots attacking Tokyo. Although, that would have made AI WAAAAAY better.

There’s a reason why Stanley Kubrick stopped writing A.I.

And if you’ve read Pluto, you know that Tenma is colossally evil, and probably deserved to be punched in the dick.
