Comic Book Bros
Comic Book Men. It’s a show on the channel with the Walking Dead and it’s about guys who work at a comic book store. The Kevin Smith guys. I watched a few minutes of it, so I can’t really give it any kind of critical analysis. For that, go to Chris Sims at Comics Alliance. A dude on the show took issue with the review, and, in what is maybe the worst (or best, depending on how you view publicity) thing you can do in response to a review, the beard guy wrote a letter to Sims about how wrong his review was.
Choover and Danz, no relation to the guys on that other show, have the ULTIMATE new reality show, where they yell at ladies and talk about masturbating to fictional girls at their esteemed comic shop, “COMICS AREN’T GAY”. These guys are the best! I want to be just like them! They make my hobby feel COOL!

I watched the first episode to see how bad it would be, and it just disgusted me. The High/Low point for me was when a guy brings in a Bob Kane original, and finds out how much its worth, and says:”Oh sweet, really? Cause I’ve been looking at this SWEET red Camero” as he raises his eyebrows. Anyway, the show sucked, but it was educational in how not to run a comic store. So, that was nice.
Oh, and the comic was hilarious.

I think so too. Watching it makes me realize the generational gap going on between new and old fans, at least as I’ve experienced it.

That’s no excuse. The owner of my local comic shop is a totally nice guy who goes the extra mile to get kids and newcomers into comics. It’s not an age thing, it’s just laziness. These guys are lazy because good customer service is a hell of a lot harder than acting smug behind a counter.

Exactly. It seems like for a large percentage of the “older generation” comics are basically saturday morning cartoons for adults. These guys are the reason writers like Geoff Johns and Rob Liefeld still have jobs. The influx of newer “internet generation” readers seem to be much more likely to view comics as a more literary artform.

I didn’t completely hate the first episode of Comic Book Men, although it did reinforce several stereotypes about comic book fans and comic book store employees. I haven’t seen the second episode yet. Maybe the show will get better.

Guys be careful with your commentary of a reality show you might get a weird email about how much traffic some podcast gets.
