Everybody Was Robot Fightin’
If Magnus, Robot Fighter, had been around in the 80′s we wouldn’t have had Speak N Spells, but the machines also wouldn’t have put us in the Matrix, so it’s all a wash.

You see, if I didn’t follow @thechrishaley, I would not have known to look up Valiant, then understand this comic!
That was a compliment AND advertising, guys.

Must. Not. Correct. Friends. Must. Not. GREAT CEASER’S GHOST — WE’RE BOMBING THE MOON YOU GUYS! Gold Key Represent.

That is the best drawing of Magnus, ever. Do you realize what that means, Chris? You have beaten Russ Manning at his own game.

Joel – That means they HAVE to give me the Russ Manning Award at the next Eisners, right?
October 8th, 2009 at 7:04 pm
MaxtotheMax – Wow, can’t ask for much more than that. Except money. I guess we could ask for money.

Sven – What’d we do wrong?

Chris – Magnus stories were in DOCTOR SOLAR during the ’80′s. That was my first exposure to Magnus. Totally Pre-Valiant. Published by Gold Key until they morphed into Whitman. I can recall buying SOLAR with Magnus in it off of one of those “Hey Kids, COMICS!” spinner racks back in the day. On side note, I agree with Joel: you’re worth a couple of Russ Mannings at least. : )

Mr. Chips, noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Man, Scooter Computer’s gonna be pissed.
(Did I just out-obscure myself on this one? It’s entirely possible I’ve gone entirely too far this time.)

Bill – If anyone has action at their fingertips, it’s Magnus.

GO MAGNUS, GO! FIGHT THAT FREEWILL BASTARD!

Hey Chris thanks again for the strip and the batman sketchcard, they both look amazing.

I fear for V.I.C.I.’s safety.

Awesome comic, man!! Magnus is cool. Next time, I want to see Magnus and a Transformer duke it out.

While Chris generally frowns upon my reading the scripts for the comics before they’re done (so as not to ruin the joke) he left this one sitting out and I couldn’t resist. And it made me laugh so hard I might have peed a little bit. Can I tell everyone what it said, guys?

Sven – Oh. No, we know all about Gold Key. Were you thinking we didn’t know Magz (and the other Gold Key-ers) pre-dated Valiant?
October 9th, 2009 at 10:22 am
Sven – Next week we’re doing a comic about Dell’s Dracula. Man, I said that as a joke, but now I want to do that soooo bad.
October 9th, 2009 at 10:27 am
Bill D – Oh, man, I wish I’d remembered them when I was drawing this. I would have made the computer look exactly like Mr. Chips.
Kevin – Glad you like them, dude. Also glad they made it to you safe and sound.
Colleen – Am I having a pop culture blank out?
Markus – I’ll see what I can do.
April – That’s what people have to buy LBFA Vol. 2 for.

I watched too much TV in the 80′s. Vicki was from SMALL WONDER. I just got creeped out at how detailed this wiki entry is: “Voice Input Child Identicant (V.I.C.I.), but was nicknamed Vicki for short. She has real hair and realistic skin. She possesses super human strength and speed and runs on atomic power. Vicki has an access panel in her back, an electric socket in her right armpit, and an RS-232 serial port under her left armpit.”

Chris – I figured you guys knew about Gold Key. I think my brain equates Magnus with ’80′s due to reading those comics to the “Celestial Soda Pop” album by Ray Lynch as a kid. I vote for more vampire comics. I wanna see Twilight Curt vs Dell Dracula. Your take on Colan’s Dracula from TOMB OF DRACULA would be great too. I also really wanna see Magnus punching out a Speak n’ Spell, C3P0 & Twiki from Buck Rogers.

Colleen – SEE! I thought that’s what you were talking about, but to be sure I tried to Google it and Google failed me. I should have just Wikipedia’d Small Wonder to see.
