The Orrery of Cakes
It’s one thing for me to say Grant Morrison is in front of of an Orrery of Cakes and an entirely other thing for Chris to have to draw it.

And yet he did an incredible job. His rendering of All-Star Superman #12 is even better though. Good Quitely imitation Chris!

also, i think you should both look up the definition of “orrery.”

I actually did look up the definition of “orrery” back when I was working on this, and though one particular way is the most common, there are multiple ways to make what can be referred to as an “orrery”.
Also, if Grant Morrison calls it an “orrery”, then we call it an “orrery”.

i’m sure there are various ways you can make a device that displays the sun and planets and their relative positions and motions any other way, but the end result will still serve the same purpose. i’m pretty sure there’s no other definition of “orrery,” since it was named after the duke of orrery, for whom the first modern example of such a device was created.
but if grant calls in an orrery, es muß sein!

the mossimo shirt is definitely my favorite detail. i want to see both chris and curt in full 1996 regalia. also, i just noticed that chris is sitting on a superman bedspread, which is my second favorite detail. it would be my first if he hadn’t insisted on using it after we moved in together.

The middle panel is the best thing the internet’s ever done.

When someone first showed me this strip, I believed the bald man in the third panel was Lex Luthor, having accrued the fabled 40.
But it turns out to be the guy who wrote The Invisibles. WHAT A TWIST

Just reread the first Morrison Doom Patrol arc. Now I finally understand how funny this is.
